Why a safe browser app?
To this day, a safe browser remains the best way to offer a safe Internet, without any workarounds, on iOS and Android. If anyone is telling you otherwise, go ahead and try what they recommend. More than likely, you will find a workaround within a few minutes.
How about VPN-based filtering?
On iOS devices, a VPN-based filter can be installed using an MDM profile. The profile itself can be locked with a passcode and cannot be deleted. However, the VPN can very easily be turned off in the device settings, and there is no way to lock that. Who do you think will figure this out first?
How about DNS-based parental controls?
This is a one-size-fits-all approach where you can only allow or block domains. For e.g. most of your kids’ Googling is benign, but the odd one returns questionable stuff. Filtering the internet of today requires a dynamic filter that does deep packet inspection, like Mobicip.
Is App Monitoring enabled by default?
On iOS devices, you will need to go through simple steps to install the App Monitor profile. Once installed, you will see the apps on the device displayed on the Apps page in your account. Follow the steps in this tutorial to get setup.
So are there no workarounds to the Safe Browser?
The only way to workaround Mobicip’s parental controls on iOS devices is to jailbreak the device. This is not an easy task, it voids Apple’s warranty, and leads to unintended consequences.
